India's Class X dropout rate has decreased from 28.4% in 2018-19 to 20.6% in 2021-22. Odisha has the highest dropout rate at 49.9%, followed by Bihar at 42.1%. The Union education minister stated that the reasons for student failure vary, including lack of attendance, difficulty in following instructions, lack of interest, and lack of support. The dropout rates in other states range from 33.5% in Meghalaya to 1.3% in Delhi, with Manipur recording no dropouts.
