Eight Bengal villagers, most of them possibly women and children, burned to death in a blaze that engulfed a row of houses at Bogtui village in Rampurhat within an hour of a TMC deputy panchayat head’s murder on Monday, putting the state back on a familiar trail of allegations about political violence and reprisal.
