Rising incomes have helped crores realise their foreign travel dream

In 2000, only 44 lakh Indians travelled abroad. Although people’s incomes had risen fast after liberalisation in 1991, less than 0.5% of the population could afford foreign travel.The number of outbound Indians increased more than five fold in the next 17 years. In 2017, almost 2.4 crore Indians went abroad.
